This is a wide open question and can only be answered by your policy limits. Your policy may state that they can replace OEM parts with like, kind and quality parts which could be a used part or an aftermarket part.

Why don’t insurance companies tell the insured about betterments?
Instead they tell them, “A common ploy is to add additional costs without informing you, and then tell you that the vehicle will not be given back to you unless the additional costs are paid”.
At the shop where I work, when a customer picks up their repaired vehicle and I tell them they owe an additional, (for example)$112.88 for a betterment on an AC Condenser that their insurance company has decreased payment on – due to normal wear and tear of the part, they think we’re trying to make a “fast buck”.
Some become very angry and we have had to absorb the betterment costs to diffuse the situation.
